So let’s answer some questions…
Choosing an orthodontist to get that healthy and esthetic smile is imperative. Orthodontic braces and clear aligner therapy can have a huge impact on your self-esteem and confidence. More importantly, your smile needs to be functional as well. This is why you should always seek treatment from a board-certified orthodontist.
So why an orthodontist?
Orthodontists are highly trained individuals and they bring unique skills and knowledge to your treatment. They understand the relationship between your teeth and other facial structures and how that affects your overall appearance. They can correct non-esthetic smiles in a way that enhances your natural appearance and gives you a healthier smile and a more functional bite. It is possible to have the smile of your dreams with treatment from a board-certified orthodontist at Ladera Orthodontics.
Our goal is to make every patient feel safe and comfortable throughout treatment. The entire team is dedicated to providing the compassionate and quality care that you deserve.
So how does this work?
After you select your choice of treatment, whether it be braces or clear aligners, the orthodontists at Ladera Orthodontics will work hard to create that beautiful and functional smile that you desire. Orthodontic “appliances” are made of different materials, again depending on the specific treatment chosen, but whether they are of plastic, ceramic or metal, no matter if they are bonded to your teeth or removable, they will apply constant but gentle pressure to guide the teeth into their new positions.
In past years, having braces meant a complex set of metal brackets and bands fitted around each tooth. That’s likely where the term ‘metal mouth’ was originated. Things are different today. Braces are considerably smaller and with a lower profile (they don’t stick out as much). With a choice of metal or clear brackets, and in some cases, with the ability to pick the color of your braces or appliances, things are nowhere near as noticeable. In fact, you can happily smile throughout your treatment, and braces are not only more comfortable but more effective as well. Thanks to the wide range of treatment possibilities, one can find that perfect smile at any age.
So how long is this going to take?
Modern braces work much quicker and they are certainly more efficient compared to brace systems of the past.
However, treatment times do still vary depending on the specific treatment option and the amount of work an individual needs. Factors such as the patient’s age, compliance with elastics, missed appointments, broken brackets, and oral hygiene all influence total treatment time. Normally, the majority of treatments today usually last one to two years.
So what is the greatest factor in keeping the total treatment time low?
Compliance! Your compliance to be exact! If you follow the instructions and care from Drs. Gire and Salmassian, including wearing your elastics or rubber bands as directed, treatment will be over before you know it.
Prior to initiating orthodontic treatment, your orthodontist will go over all of your options, including giving you an estimate of how long the orthodontic treatment will last. Please contact our Ladera Ranch office for a complimentary consultation to learn more about all of your treatments options.
